ARTIST STATEMENT, “Technique is the Consequence of Concept.”

While making my art, I may not know exactly where I am heading, but I do know how to get there. By allowing my technique to be the consequence of the painting’s concept and following a working path of expected surprises coupled with fearless exploration, I’m collaborating with the nuances and idiosyncrasies of both the materials and the surface. We three engage in real and complicated conversations. By revealing moments from these conversations, we create unique visual experiences. Similar to peeking, I adjust as I go.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Phil O’Malley, a professional studio artist and designer in Indianapolis, IN, lived his first decade about forty miles west of Cape Cod followed with the past four decades painting in the Midwest.
